Board Member - Livingston, MT
Mary Jo “Joey” Lane is a Montana educator, rancher, and community leader with deep roots in Livingston and a longstanding commitment to civic engagement and global education. A graduate of Colorado State University, Joey returned to Montana to begin her teaching career in social studies at Joliet High School, where she also coached volleyball and track.
After marrying her husband, Tom, Joey moved back to Livingston and has lived on the Lane Ranch east of town for more than 30 years. Following several years of raising their three children, Joey returned to education as head volleyball coach and social studies teacher at Park High School. Over the course of her career, she taught World History, AP European History, World Cultures, and Economics.
In addition to her work in education, Joey has played an active role in the family ranching business, serving as office manager and, when needed, as a ranch hand. Alongside Tom, she helps manage cattle operations across Park, Gallatin, Chouteau, and Judith Basin counties.
Joey’s community experience includes serving as president of the St. Mary’s School Parent/Teacher Organization, vice president and president of the Livingston Education Association, as well as being a member of the Montana Council for Economic Education and Farm Bureau. She has also served for the past nine years on the Livingston Healthcare Foundation Board, including the last two years as Chairperson.
With a lifelong passion for history, economics, agriculture, and helping young people broaden their understanding of the world, Joey brings both local perspective and global curiosity to her service and would be honored to contribute to the mission of the Montana World Affairs Council.
