Guest Speaker Bio:

Anwar is currently working with Patani Forum, a CSO based in Pattani, while completing his PhD program in International Relations from Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey. His focus of research has been on human rights and the Buddhist-Muslim conflict in Thailand. Aside from his academic studies, as a researcher for the Patani Forum, his research contributes to reports that are used nationally and internationally to understand the current conflict situation in southern Thailand. Anwar seeks to learn more about interethnic engagement and youth empowerment, democracy, and how to engage people from diverse backgrounds as a basis for preventing ethnic conflict. He is expected to take a leadership role in his organization in the near future and wants to learn more leadership, networking, outreach, and organizational management skills to help him with that transition.  Anwar hopes his time in the U.S. will increase his understanding of nonviolent action for social change, democracy, and how to engage with the government on sensitive issues. He has never traveled to the U.S.
