The Security Council is hamstrung, key members of the international community are withdrawing from the UN Human Rights Council, most UN Peacekeeping Operations have no end in sight. The world has turned away from multilateralism. Is the UN yesterday’s game? Is it worth saving?

He resigned from the UN at the end of 2010 as the Secretary General representative’s to Burundi. Since leaving the UN, he has undertaken various policy advisory functions (President of Somalia, Syrian opposition) and coordinated a response to the Myanmar peace process. In March 2012, Charles Petrie led an internal review of the UN’s failure in Sri Lanka.
