A discussion around what type of assistance is needed in the aftermath of a humanitarian disaster, the organizations that deliver the assistance and the source of funding for emergency relief.  Focus will be put on the ways that citizens of Montana can best assist victims of humanitarian disasters around the world.

 

Doug Mercado is currently a visiting lecturer at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.  He’s spent the past 30 years involved in the field of international humanitarian assistance working with the United Nations, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Organization of American States (OAS) and various non-governmental organizations (NGOs). His assignments have taken him to over two dozen countries including Bosnia, the Bahamas, Liberia, Iraq and Afghanistan where he has managed emergency assistance programs related to natural disasters, conflicts and infectious disease outbreaks.
