This talk looks at why the UN matters more than ever when global trends, exacerbated by the pandemic, are leading individual nations to turn inward. The UN offers the world a platform built from core values that are necessary to support peace, not only in developing countries, but in the many wealthy nations where xenophobic nationalism is rising at an alarming rate.


Harriet Martin is a specialist in international peace support, working for the last six years on the peace process in Myanmar. She began her career as a war correspondent in Bosnia in the 1990s and is the author of book on international peace-making, Kings of Peace Pawns of War.
