On October 24th, 2017, Ambassador Max Baucus participated as the featured guest for the Montana World Affairs Council’s Distinguished Speaker’s Program, speaking on “China, North Korea, and the US: What Happens Next?” Ambassador Baucus spoke to some 300+ members of the Missoula community at the DoubleTree Hilton, speaking about his experiences as Ambassador to China and fielding questions from the audience. Ambassador Baucus spoke on North Korea and its weapons program, trade and relations between China and the United States, and his views on the United States and South Asia as a whole. Earlier in the afternoon, Amb. Baucus participated in a Council in the Classroom program speaking to students from around the state about events in the region. On September 28th, 2017, Karolo Aparicio participated in a Council in the Classroom live video conference with Montana students, speaking on El Salvador’s Water Crisis. Mr. Karolo is the executive director of EcoViva, a nonprofit organization focused on clean water awareness and education around the globe. EU Ambassador to the United States, David O’Sullivan, met with business and economic leaders from Montana on September 28th, 2017 for the Council’s Business Luncheon Series roundtable discussion. The Ambassador met with banking, agricultural, technological, and medical entrepreneurs all around Missoula, and spoke at length regarding trade and commerce, Brexit, and the current political climate of Europe.
